The UAE is one of India's largest export markets for kitchenware, driven by a large South Asian expatriate population and a thriving hospitality sector. Here's how to start importing Indian stainless steel utensils into the UAE.
Step 1: Register Your Trading Company
Obtain a UAE trade license from the Department of Economic Development (DED) or a free zone authority. A general trading license covers most kitchenware import activities.
Step 2: Find a Reliable Indian Supplier
Look for ISO-certified manufacturers in Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) — these are the major kitchenware manufacturing hubs in India. Request product catalogues, samples, and compliance certificates before placing orders.
Step 3: Understand Import Duties
The UAE applies a 5% customs duty on most kitchenware imports. Products under the GCC common customs tariff may qualify for zero-duty treatment from India under the India-GCC FTA (under negotiation as of 2024).
Step 4: Arrange Shipping and Insurance
For container loads (FCL), sea freight from JNPT (Mumbai) or Mundra to Jebel Ali takes 10–14 days. For smaller shipments, LCL or air cargo is more economical. Always insure your shipment for CIF value + 10%.
